Are Smartphones Making Us All Infomaniacs?

I admit it. I am and, for over 30 years, have been an “infomaniac.” Even when I was a teenager, I would listen to talk or news radio, and very seldom turn to a music station. For some bizarre reason, I wanted — or perhaps needed — to know what was going on in the world. I am checking news, social media and email way too often, even now.

These days, instead of a radio, my smartphone and tablet feed my appetite for information, and the need for consistent connectivity is always present in my mind. To be fair, I do know how to turn this info gene off, and I am not a slave to it. But I do like to stay abreast of things and, whenever possible, I often use my smartphone to check news, weather, email, social media, etc. On the other hand, since tech news and issues are changing constantly, this info gene actually helps me do my job much better.

It turns out, I am not the only one with this tendency. A recent survey by Statista shows that among all adults 18-65, 11 percent check their phones every few minutes. Forty-one percent check them at least a couple of times an hour. read more

Automation Won’t Replace People as Your Competitive Advantage

Geoff Colvin’s new book

insists that humans are underrated. It’s a fun follow-up declaration to his earlier book, which taught us that talent is overrated.
The two are not as incompatible as it might seem. Colvin’s point in the earlier book was that talented people always succeed in the context of a system, and it’s hard to rate talent independent of its context. As a result, stars usually get more credit for their successes than they’re due. (Boris Groysberg’s research backs this up by showing how the high performance of stars in various fields turns out not to be portable when they are recruited away by other employers.) Indeed, it’s often awell-designed system that makes someone valuable; the best systems are able to get “A” results out of “B” players. If you can build that kind of system as an enterprise, there is no reason to break the bank recruiting superstars or otherwise allow the top percentiles of your talent to walk away with “winner takes all” rewards.

Duck Curry "Caribbean Style"

"Celui-là a eu du courage, qui a été le premier à manger une huître."
Jonathan Swift (1667-1745)

+0

I love Duck more than pork, beef, and chicken. I even love it more than crab or lobster. Like chicken, Duck is a domesticated bird, and categorised as poultry. But for me, it has a unique taste and flavour. In my opinion, Duck is far more succulent, and much tastier than other forms of poultry. The downside is that this famous bird, is five times more expensive than chicken.

Recipe Ingredients:
1tbs of Butter
Vegetable Oil (Amount used is Personal Choice)
1/2 a Lime or Lemon (preferably lime)
1 Scallion chopped
1 Garlic Head chopped and minced
1 whole Onion
2 Slices of Fresh Ginger Chopped and Minced
1 Tomato halved
1tsp of Amchar Masala or 1tbs of Garam Masala
(The amount of Masala Spice you choose to use is up to your personal taste, I like the intensity of Garam so I tend to use more than needed)
4-5 tbs of Caribbean Curry Powder
Dunns River Hot Curry Powder OR Raja Jahan Madras Curry Powder
(Amount of Curry Powder is approximate; it's up to your taste)
2 tsp of Cumin (Or to your taste)
Salt (to your taste, I would say this dish needs a least 1 tbs of salt)
1 ½ tsp of Black Pepper
1 Scotch Bonnet
1 Sweet Pepper or Bell Pepper (RED) chopped with Seeds
1 1/2 tbs of Light Soy Sauce
1 Cinnamon Stick
1 or 2 Bay Leaves
2 cups of Water (Or to your preference, depending on how thick or thin you like your curry)
2 tbs of Coconut Milk (Optional)
4 tbs of Green Seasoning (Optional but highly recommended)
// My desire for knowledge is intermittent, but my desire to bathe my head in atmospheres unknown to my feet is perennial and constant.
